2nd place in the regional championship «Worldskills Russia Juniors»
From the 16th to the 20th of November, Alabuga International School students took part in the “Worldskills Russia Juniors” in Kazan for the first time. Our boys from grade 8 lived in the Universiade Village and competed in the assembly and programming of robots at the regional level for 5 days.

It was the first time our school participated in such an event. This year, Alabuga International School students reached the age of the youngest category of 12-14 years old and were prepared enough to take part in the mobile robotics championship. Two teams took part in the competition from our school: Nariman Shafikov and Mark Semivolkov, and also Timur Uguz and Ilyas Davletshin.

“Our school has a great technical base. We wanted to test our skills for a long time, and Worldskills is only the first step. This is our start because as the children grow up we grow with them as well. The internal competition will become more interesting and difficult when other students will grow up. The elder category will appear. "- said the robotics teacher and mentor Maxim Nikitin.

The main mission of the junior movement is to provide an opportunity to consciously choose a profession in a rapidly changing world. The championship helped Nariman Shafikov, a student of our school, to make sure his choice of the educational trajectory was right. “Programming is for me! We programmed well and assembled quickly, we even had time left. Because we trained for 2-3 hours a day for two weeks before the championship, and then in our free time after the competition: I didn't want to get last place. "

WorldSkills junior tournaments are the adaptation of adult competence, taking into account the age characteristics and capabilities of young competitors. The Championship allows you to try your hand at a specific specialty, as well as to get information about it directly from the representatives of the professional community, to understand career prospects and the structure of the industry from the inside.

Nariman Shafikov and Mark Semivolkov  deservedly brought the 2nd place to our school, losing first place to the silver medalist of the All-Russian Worldskills Junior Mobile Robotics Championship of last year. Congratulations!

IB Student Conferences: Opportunities for Empowerment

Student conferences within IB PYP programme were held at AIS to reflect the students’ progress in academic disciplines and core competencies under the new school strategy on April 10-11.

Students of KG1 - Grade 2 and their parents participated in the Three-Way Conferences that involved three parties: students, parents and teachers. The conference participants discussed students’ progress and achievements emphasizing on the strengths and areas for improvement as well as setting future goals for the next academic year and the ways to assist in their attainment. AIS students shared their thoughts and ideas on inquiries conducted, assessed their role in inquiry activities, demonstrated the works, selected by them well in advance with the teacher’s support, and their portfolios.

The format of Student Led Conferences for Grade 3 - Grade 6 allowed the students to arrange and run conferences on their own. The student portfolio was the main focus of the conferences as it compiles many great examples from different units of inquiry. It gives the students the chance to take full ownership of their work while making their parents proud of all that they have done throughout the year.

The days of student conferences turned to be special for the entire school community and gave our students the unique opportunities for empowerment and engagement. We would like to express gratitude to all AIS families for taking the time to recognize the full worth of a strong IB education!
