Exploring the Power of Science
A new round of STEM and Science Week was officially launched in AIS on April 22. It was a week-long experience of the power of science!

Lots of brilliant experiments and demonstrations brought science to life for our students. They got to grips with the complexities of Physics, Chemistry, Medicine, Biotechnology and Robotics guided by AIS educators, engineering mentors and our parents whose life is closely related to these sciences making the students’ insight into science deeper and more comprehensive.

Our students visited science museums, explored medical specialties in “Tanar” clinic, got to know the wood processing as an engineering discipline and explored new technologies in payments. Children had the unique experience of a Hackathon aimed at providing the opportunity for students to discover and prove themselves, tested their scientific knowledge in a range of Olympiads and participated in lots of other science-wise events. Our Grade 6 had a trip to Kazan International School to witness a PYP Exhibition being the culminating event of a primary education.

The entire week AIS students have been working hard on their science projects. To celebrate their work and the end of the STEM and Science Week a display has been set up. AIS students were greatly inspired by this opportunity and shared their investigations with the school community and our guests with skill and dignity. The final day program involved robo-fights and a March for science participated by all students, educators and people invited as a culminating part of the STEM and Science Week in AIS.

IB Student Conferences: Opportunities for Empowerment

Student conferences within IB PYP programme were held at AIS to reflect the students’ progress in academic disciplines and core competencies under the new school strategy on April 10-11.

Students of KG1 - Grade 2 and their parents participated in the Three-Way Conferences that involved three parties: students, parents and teachers. The conference participants discussed students’ progress and achievements emphasizing on the strengths and areas for improvement as well as setting future goals for the next academic year and the ways to assist in their attainment. AIS students shared their thoughts and ideas on inquiries conducted, assessed their role in inquiry activities, demonstrated the works, selected by them well in advance with the teacher’s support, and their portfolios.

The format of Student Led Conferences for Grade 3 - Grade 6 allowed the students to arrange and run conferences on their own. The student portfolio was the main focus of the conferences as it compiles many great examples from different units of inquiry. It gives the students the chance to take full ownership of their work while making their parents proud of all that they have done throughout the year.

The days of student conferences turned to be special for the entire school community and gave our students the unique opportunities for empowerment and engagement. We would like to express gratitude to all AIS families for taking the time to recognize the full worth of a strong IB education!
