Global Industry Leaders Visit as a Part of STEM Strategy Implementation
Within the framework of the new school development strategy AIS team of teachers, coordinators and administrators held a series of meetings with the top-management of industrial robotics and equipment manufacturers such as KUKA, FESTO, Siemens and KraussMaffei on November 8-15 in Germany.
There was signed a Memorandum of cooperation between AIS and KUKA, a German manufacturer of industrial robotics, on November, 9 in Augsburg. The parties outlined the main directions of collaboration, reached agreements in terms of teaching our staff and engaging KUKA engineers in designing of training complexes. Our school team was greatly impressed by the two-days-visit of KUKA headquarters and the insight into training, scientific research and production subdivisions of the Company.
A meeting with Siemens management and staff responsible for process design in automobile industry was held on November, 12. AIS team got familiar with the latest achievements in the automotive field.
On November 13, AIS team met with FESTO Company, the manufacturer of training and industrial equipment, at the headquarters of FESTO and its subdivision FESTO-Didactic, in Esslingen am Neckar. Our staff was presented with the entire line of training equipment, Industry 4.0 concept, as well as learning technologies.
The final meeting within the visit of world industrial production leaders was held with KraussMaffei, a manufacturer of the wide range of automatic equipment for the main industries, on November, 15. Negotiations resulted in agreement on cooperation and consulting services to be provided by KraussMaffei.

IB Student Conferences: Opportunities for Empowerment

Student conferences within IB PYP programme were held at AIS to reflect the students’ progress in academic disciplines and core competencies under the new school strategy on April 10-11.

Students of KG1 - Grade 2 and their parents participated in the Three-Way Conferences that involved three parties: students, parents and teachers. The conference participants discussed students’ progress and achievements emphasizing on the strengths and areas for improvement as well as setting future goals for the next academic year and the ways to assist in their attainment. AIS students shared their thoughts and ideas on inquiries conducted, assessed their role in inquiry activities, demonstrated the works, selected by them well in advance with the teacher’s support, and their portfolios.

The format of Student Led Conferences for Grade 3 - Grade 6 allowed the students to arrange and run conferences on their own. The student portfolio was the main focus of the conferences as it compiles many great examples from different units of inquiry. It gives the students the chance to take full ownership of their work while making their parents proud of all that they have done throughout the year.

The days of student conferences turned to be special for the entire school community and gave our students the unique opportunities for empowerment and engagement. We would like to express gratitude to all AIS families for taking the time to recognize the full worth of a strong IB education!
