Nurturing own world-class engineers
Within the entire year our school has been working on launching own modern STEM Center that will serve as a platform to train engineers for “Alabuga”. AIS team investigated staffing requirements of the economic zone residents, made a selection of advanced equipment and training simulators, explored best global practices to take it as a basis for educational programs.

Our school staff held a series of meetings with the top-management of industrial robotics and equipment manufacturers such as KUKA, FESTO, Siemens and KraussMaffei in Germany and reached agreements on cooperation in the future.
The work performed and a common desire to realize this unique project enabled us to start the educational process on September 2, 2019. We express our sincere gratitude to all subdivisions of the Company for their contribution into project implementation.

Our STEM Center students will be educated in four most in-demand fields: Mechatronics, Automated Control Systems, Chemistry and Electrical Engineering supervised by Russian and international engineers. The training program will cover extra modules from the leading manufacturers, mentorship and classes by engineers-residents of the Special Economic Zone.

Already in the first three months STEM Center students will have an opportunity to become proficient in CorelDraw, SketchUp, TinkerCAD, Arduino, Lego Mindstorms, Tetrix and RobCad, get into the basics of mechatronics and industrial lines operation, electric power engineering and electrical engineering, pneumatics and hydraulics, aerodynamics, analytical, physical and colloid chemistry, and later – additive technologies, molding on automatic machines and composite technologies as well as network architecture and robot integration.

Moreover they will master PLC programming skills, engineering design, video editing in Adobe Premiere Pro, competencies for handling IEC 61131-3: IL, ST, STL, LAD, Python, G-code, Java, MathLab, FBD: C/C++ programmimg languages, working in design software environments AutoCAD, Photoshop and operating industrial robotics, pneumatic systems, compressors, pneumatic equipment, servosystems, different interfaces, control panels and instrumentation, hybrid CNC machines and 3D printers.

The training platform of our STEM Center with the area of 1647.8 sq.m. is provided with the most-up-to-date equipment amounting to 56 mln.rubles: cells with industrial robot manipulators Kuka ready2_educate, ready2_use_(pilot),  Siemens (Logo) controllers, collaborative robot Sawyer, training complexes «Pneumatic Starter® - Start in pneumatics» and «MecLab® - Start in Mechatronics», training-laboratory simulators FESTO Didactic «Automatic control units» and Schneider, training simulators for power supply system, waste water treatment and disposal, heating systems, laser cutting and engraving machines, chemical reactors and gas analysers, spectrophotometers, chromatographs, centrifuges, automatic molding machines and compounding extruders Krauss Maffei, 3D printers and scanners as well as our own toy production line and other modern equipment including a great number of manual tool sets.

However we are going to move beyond expanding the area of the STEM Center by 7000 sq.m. and fitting it up by the additional new generation equipment.

IB Student Conferences: Opportunities for Empowerment

Student conferences within IB PYP programme were held at AIS to reflect the students’ progress in academic disciplines and core competencies under the new school strategy on April 10-11.

Students of KG1 - Grade 2 and their parents participated in the Three-Way Conferences that involved three parties: students, parents and teachers. The conference participants discussed students’ progress and achievements emphasizing on the strengths and areas for improvement as well as setting future goals for the next academic year and the ways to assist in their attainment. AIS students shared their thoughts and ideas on inquiries conducted, assessed their role in inquiry activities, demonstrated the works, selected by them well in advance with the teacher’s support, and their portfolios.

The format of Student Led Conferences for Grade 3 - Grade 6 allowed the students to arrange and run conferences on their own. The student portfolio was the main focus of the conferences as it compiles many great examples from different units of inquiry. It gives the students the chance to take full ownership of their work while making their parents proud of all that they have done throughout the year.

The days of student conferences turned to be special for the entire school community and gave our students the unique opportunities for empowerment and engagement. We would like to express gratitude to all AIS families for taking the time to recognize the full worth of a strong IB education!
